MS-Dos was made by bill gates, and thats where he got the money, becuase he didnt patent it out or something like that, they have to pay him each time they make a computer with MS Dos as the OS, and i think thats all the Windows computers?

Phred: I'm not counting them. 24 hours, 24 timezones. If they choose to isolate themselves from that, it's their problem, not ours.

Jo: ...

That was to show that I'm speechless. According to your picture, I look damned good. :) I thank you so much for drawing it. And as thanks for drawing it, here's some more answers!

Zorn: You're right. You do have too much time. Actually, it's kind of odd, I have two avatars. In Pez-Man's comic, I'm a Dr. Light sprite, and in the forum, I'm a Protoman sprite. I see you chose to sprite the 8-bit version of my forum avatar.

All of you: MS-DOS is weird. The story behind it is that Bill Gates bought an un-patented operating system from someone else, patented it, and leased it to IBM. Because he leased it and didn't sell it, IBM was stuck in a contract with him which made him a lot of money. DOS stands for Disk Operating System. MS-DOS is simply the Microsoft version of it. Over the years, Microsoft has used the same underlying code to make Windows, all the way up to Windows ME. MS-DOS is a single threaded (meaning it can only run one thing at a time) operating system, with very limited support for hardware. If you try to run any DOS program in an NT based Windows (Windows NT, 2K, XP), all you'll get is DOS emulation, not actual DOS, so it won't work the same way it used to many years ago. Even in Windows 95 and up, DOS has changed from it's past and won't run the same way. This included how DOS programs used to handle sound, which they might not be able to do anymore. There's far more information about DOS that I haven't given yet, and if you want any more, just tell me what specific area you are interested in and I'll tell you what I know.

Half-way zones are _not_ official. You think that it's just one place in the US which has them?

Well, they _are_ official, but they're not zones, as such. They're just places where for one reason or another have their time shifted a different amount than usual. Hint - go to the Date/Time Options and see how many places have a half hour added/subtracted... Kathmandu is +5:45 :O

Why do computers use RGB, while art uses RYB? Why can't art use RGB, or vice-versa?

*blush* Aww....thanks, chro. >^^<

Hrm...I can answer Phred's question. White is all the colors mixed together, and black is the lack of color.

As for DOS...I guess, but it's still annoying not to hear the music as should be heard, not through the dinky speaker.

Phred: You've touched on a very odd topic here. The problem is that there are a few groups of people who are diametrically opposed on this issue. Let's go over the basics: all the color that we see is composed of light. The red can of Coke sitting next to me looks red because red light is boucing off of it and into my eyes. Everything you see behaves in this fashion: it looks a certain color because that is the color of light that is reflected off of it. Another thing to consider is that all colors that we see can be broken down into three components: red, green, and blue. That means that everything we look at reflects some combination of red, green, and blue. The red coke can next to me reflects mostly red light, along with a little of the other two because it's not a perfect red. When you consider both of these, what Jo-Chan said is right: white light is all three colors mixed together, while black is the absence of all three. Because there is no such thing that reflects perfect white or black, we will always get varying degrees of the red, green, and blue that reflect. This also explains the RGB system used by computers. Computer monitors project light for each pixel, so each pixel needs to have a red, green, and blue value.

Art is a totally different matter. Classically, we've been told that using red, yellow, and blue paint, we can make any color. This technically isn't true. If you were to combine red, yellow, and blue paint, you wouldn't get white or black, like you would expect. You would get a sort of muddy brown. The reason art teachers like to teach that is because you can still make a wide variety of color, plus red, yellow, and blue dye was much cheaper to make and buy a long time ago, so it has stuck. Truly, there are three dyes than can be used to make any color: cyan, magenta, and yellow. That's why inkjet printers use these colors. The combination of the three produces black, and the absence of the three shows white.

So far, we have two different systems:
Light: RGB
Dye: CMY

The cool thing is that these two systems are intimately related. In light, the combination of red and green makes yellow, green and blue makes cyan, and blue and red makes magenta. This works in reverse: yellow and cyan makes green, cyan and magenta makes blue, and magenta and yellow make red. When we consider this, we can see all colors in a nice way: all the colors that we see can be expressed in the formula xr+yg+zb where x, y, and z are the amounts of red, green, and blue that we see. This way, cyan, magenta, and yellow can be seen as -x, -y, and -z. This means that for each unit cyan you add, you subtract that much red from the surface. Example: You have a bright white piece of paper. Currently, it's formula is 255r+255g+255b (I'm using the standard 0-255 system of color). You add pure cyan dye to the paper. Because pure cyan is -255r, the new formula is 0r+255g+255b. If you remember, pure green plus pure blue is cyan, so this works!

In the way I just explained it, RGB is called the additive system and CMY is called the subtractive system, named after the way they add and subtract colors.

Personally, I don't make a distinction. To me, cyan is just -red, and so on, but others disagree with me in that respect.

Oops. While I was going off on my color rant, I forgot to address everything else.

Jo: Yeah, it does suck, though I don't remember ever hearing Dr. Quandry coming through my sound card. I downloaded it to my personal computer, and I don't have any sound at all, not even through the system speaker! Oh well. It just goes to show you how old technology becomes outdated and begins to stop working.

... I didn't know colors could be math ... *Pez-Man is impressed and confused* I already know it, for the most part, but could you explain the theory behind the atom bombs, and all those mass weapons?

i think i remember sound when i played it...
of course i played it on an I-Mac with an apple processor...i think
so the version might have been slightly different to play on it

chro:can you explain why some stuff MS processors can operate something, while others can't operate the same thing

What are all the possible causes of stuttering?

I heard that having 6 fingers is a dominant gene, but that there is some kinda side effect to having that gene, and thats why alot of people dont have 6 fingers. Is this true?

If you were an anime character, what would you look like? What are all the possible causes of stuttering?
