I'm sure Chromus was referring to DT's question. As for using the recycle bin, some people might delete things, but then remember that they wanted them for a certain reason. That's why you can just put them in the recycle bin, and after you're sure that you dont' need them, just delete them permanently.

Then they should just make sure that they don't need it before they delete it...

Chro, your answer wasn't very specific :/

Sorry, Zorn. For some reason, I thought you were the one who posted the graphics card question.

DT: Well, not everyone is a computer expert. Sometimes, a file is deleted by accident that you didn't mean to delete, and you can just pick it back up from the Recycle Bin. Anyways, specifics from NVidia:

Chipset
Fill Rate
Triangles per Second
Memory Bandwidth
Maximum Memory

GeForce4 MX 440
1.1 Billion Texels/Sec.
34 Million
6.4GB/Sec.
64MB

GeForce4 MX 440-SE
1 Billion Texels/Sec.
31 Million
5.3GB/Sec.
64MB

As you can see, the only difference is that the SE is not quite as powerful. Since I can't find anyone who sells the SE, I can't tell you if it's cheaper or not, but I assume so.

Fine! ... Why does snow turn white, even though water is supposed to be "colorless"?

Well, I'm not exactly sure, but this sounds like the same reason that ice cubes have white spots. The whiteness in ice comes from impurities in the water, which can include salts, minerals, and even dissolved gasses. Since the formation of a snowflake takes place mostly in the atmosphere, it would be reasonable to assume that quite a bit of gas gets trapped in the snowflake, giving snow a white color.

*quotes the dude from Thumb Wars* I have a question:

Why do our tears have salt in them?

According to the comp stores over here, they don't _make_ the MX440 any more. Those zany stores...

How would one go about compiling .java files to Windows Executables without requiring the target computer to have a JRE?

Mmm... Good crop today.

Jo-Chan, I can't really answer this without raising even more questions. The main reason is that salt tears are compatible with the mainly salt water system in our bodies.

Zornak, well, everything has radiation. Everything that you can see gives off visible radiation in the form of light. Anything that emits heat also gives off infrared radiation. I think you're going to have to be a little more specific with your question.

DT, sorry, but .java files can't be complied into executables. That just won't work. The reason for this is that java was designed for cross-platform compatibility, and because executables on different platforms are made differently, Sun won't make a tool that changes .java into executables. Their solution to this is to compile a .java file into a .class file, which can then be interpreted by a JVM on many different platforms. So, there's no way to escape the need for a JVM on the machines that you distribute your program to.

Eh? I don't think that you're quite right there, oh chromy one... For a start, most light is reflected, not emitted.

Someone better tell the companies like Borland, then. I mean, JBuilder is coded in Java and it's an executable.

I know that you can wrap java in C/C++ and create execs that way. But I don't have a good C/C++ compiler. And I don't want to use JARs because... because I don't.

Symantec Visual Cafe is supposed to be able to compile Java to executable, but I can't find it anywhere.

DT: Well, technically, you're right. Humans don't emit visible radiation, but reflect it from other sources. It would be quite odd if we were to start glowing, right? But the principle is the same. Most everything either gives off or reflects radiation in some form or another.

Also, concerning Java. Sun does not make a tool to compile Java files into executables, for the aforementioned reasons, but you can find many tools online. If you're writing Java on Unix or Linux, you can use gcj, a Java compilier included with the system. On Windows, you can't achieve a similar effect, but there are certain programs that wrap a class file up with DLLs and make an .exe, like Excelsior JET. Both of these are free.

Sorry about the total view change, but before this morning, I was under the impression that Java just wasn't a compiled language. When I did some research earlier today to answer your question, I found a wealth of resources about turning Java into executables. I just wanted to comment on some of these as well.

First of all, GCJ for unix and linux is an admirable idea. It turns a Java file into an executable, the same way a C++ file is turned into an executable. However, this has a disadvantage. When you compile a Java file into a Class file, the VM handles all the memory management while your program runs, along with operating system things. When you compile a Java file into an executable, GCJ has to wrap all of these functions into the executable itself, making it much bulkier than normal. The same problem goes for the Windows version, Excelsior JET.

You could use these kind of programs to turn Java programs into executables, but I don't reccomend it. You're adding the bulk of the entire VM into your program, even if the user already has a VM installed.

However, it does allow the program to be ran by those users who don't have a JVM.

Maybe I will just use JARs, and tell people to get a JVM... I dunno.
