Beyonder: I'm going to assume that vdub is short for VirtualDub, as the rest of this is based on that assumption. I don't know much about this software, so forgive me if I give you some advise that doesn't make sense. First of all, do you have an XviD filter for VDub? I guess you would if you were able to make XviD files in the first place. Check if there is a newer version of the filter. Secondly, do you have the newest version of the XviD codec? Third, do you have the newest version of VDub? If you have all the newest components, then it might be that VDub doesn't like your video capture drivers. The website says how it can only use VFW drivers, none of the others, so check if your video capture card has VFW drivers. (VFW stands for Video For Windows) Beyond this, I have no idea why you would be getting that error.

Not only would you void any warranty, you would lose all stored information on your GameCube, and possibly not be able to use the Gamecube anymore.

I didn't know that this forum was called: "Ask Pez-Man and Chromus"

:)

Anyways, Pez is right. By even trying to remove the internal battery, you void the warrenty. By removing it, the gamecube can no longer keep time, so you'll need to set it every time you start. It also won't be able to hold any options you set on the initial boot screen.

It's not called that, but I plan to pipe in when I can to prove that I know some things.

No, but monkeys don't, or if they do, their beards are short, because you get a really old monkey, who hasn't shaved, and it's beard is a short as the rest of it's fur. An old human, who hasn't shaved, would have quite a large beard.

How come my PC can only recognize some video files in Real Player? I have this problem with several of my anime avi's. No other media program asside from Real Player will even dignify them as playable formats, and Real Player is so screwed up it basically crashes after, generally 20-30 minutes of play... and it doesn't allow me to skip any parts due to buffer and freezing issues, so.... I can'ta watch me stuff, yo...
I have the power to command you! ...If that's okay with you of course.

Alright, I got a good crop of questions today:

Zornak: Computers make lots of sounds. The hard drive platters spin and the hard drive heads are moving back and forth, reading and writing data. CD drives spin the discs, while the laser mechanism moves back and forth. Same for floppy drives, except it's not a laser, it's a magnetic head. Fans spin to keep the computer cool. The only real piece of hardware that would be making actual sounds would be a modem, and that's if you're connecting to the internet and you have the modem volume up. If you hear anything really loud (besides the modem) or anything that sounds like something is being damaged, it might be a good idea to have a technician check your computer.

SnV: You're right. Elder monkeys have short beards. Very short. Meanwhile, elder humans sometimes get long beards. This is most likely an effect of shaving, as I described in my last answer. Shave more = more hair. However, you find in communities where shaving isn't a known idea, the elders don't have long beards. They rarely have beards at all.

Sync: First of all, don't touch VDub. As much as Beyonder likes to advocate it, there are better programs. One such program, called GSpot (laugh all you want, it's a good program), analyzes a avi file and reports what codecs a file needs to play, along with basic error checking. Use it to scan your videos. If a few of the videos come out with "codec not installed", go to http://www.divx-digest.com and get the codec that it says is missing. You should be able to play these files in WMP, if you follow these instructions.

Beyonder: First we check the codecs. If those don't work, then we check for corrupted files.

actually, if its a codec problem, real player is a *little* bit smarter than WMP about it.....instead of saying invalid format like WMP, it gives a screen like this
Unable to render video;
(fourcc)
Decompressor
not found
if the frame index is missing or corrupt, it attempts to play the file but usually ends up w/ funny green blocks in it somewhere, and after a variable amount of time, crashes.....the fix to this *is* divfix, but sometimes divfix screws files up, so thats why i recomended vdub, to rebuild the index by re-encoding by direct stream copy after doing a file scan....takes 2-10 minutes depending on the file, but works almost 100%

Sorry. I don't have much experience with RealPlayer, as I tend to avoid it as much as possible. If a corrupted file is the case, then your instructions would seem to fix the problem.
