I'm thinking about installing one of these on my own site...but even when I DLed the zip and read the instructions I was stil kinda lost. ._. Any help is appreciated.

step 1) check that your host has PHP support and some sort of SQL database you can use....to check for php support put

phpinfo();
?>

into a file called phpinfo.php and upload it, then go there...if php is installed you'll get lotsa useful info.....if not, no phpBB. about SQL you'll prolly have to ask your host.
