Aha! This was a very good movie. Despite the abundance of Sean Connery, it needed more Sean Connery. The plot was good, though the character development lacked somewhat. Everything about the movie screams "Pretty good!", and I enjoyed the movie. The special effects, though there weren't that many, were still very good, and it had a good balance of action and dialouge, unlike Terminator 3... Anyways, this movie is proof that Connery is still a great actor, and should be in every movie, as every role.
...What? He's a good actor! |

Anyways, my views on this movie differed dramatically from Pez's. I feel the character development was terrible, as each character wasn't given much of a back story, and the motivation was poor. I suppose the film-makers wanted to rely on viewers recognizing the characters from works of literature, but not everyone has read all of the needed works. The plot was alright, though it wasn't very exciting. The only really exciting parts where the battle scenes and the full introduction for each character, like when Dorian Gray is riddled with bullets only to find out that he's invulnrable, ala The Picture of Dorian Gray. The special effects were alright, especially the scenes of Dr. Jekyl turning in to Mr. Hyde and vice versa.
As much as I agree that Sean Connery was a great actor, I feel it might be time to give up acting in these kind of movies, or perhaps movies altogether. His personality tends to dominate any movie he is in, and it seems that studios like to have him in a movie just so they can push a low-quality movie out that everyone will watch, only by virute of having Connery in it.
I haven't read the graphic novel that this movie was based off of, but I'm sure it's a much better read than this movie is a view. |
