Ask Chromus
Zornak: The answer has to do with suction and air pressure. When you suck a drink through a straw, you reduce the air pressure on the top of the straw, causing the drink to flow up the straw. Since you maintain low air pressure at the top, the drink keeps flowing. If you cap the straw with your finger, the drink has equal air pressure on both sides and doesn't move. In actuality, the drink continues to move up the straw until the air pressure below and above are the same, but this happens so quickly that you don't notice it.
Even I can feild this one. IT'S MARTHA STEWART! WHAT THE CRAP ARE YOU THINKING? THIS WOMAN IS PURE EVIL! NO ONE LIKES HER! SHE ONCE CUSSED OUT HER MOM FOR 3 HOURS BECAUSE HER MOM DROPPED A KNIFE! MARTHA STEWART SHOULD BE BURNED AT THE STEAK, WITH SOME POTATOES!
*ahem*
Sorry about that, I did that report on her, and I really don't like her.

Well, it would seem that both answers deal with pyschology this time. (By the way, I'm aware that these aren't legitimate quesitons, but I feel like answering them anyways until someone gives me a real one)
Sync: Well, it could be that at some point in your life, you felt sick at the same time while watching Martha Stewart. This is a form of conditioning and I suppose it was reinforced by Stewart's genuine annoyance. All together, this ensures that you feel somewhat sick everytime you watch her show.
Zorn: Genuine voices in your head can indicate hallucinations, simply because these voices don't exist in real life. There are many ways to come by hallucinations (Schizophrenia, mind-altering drugs, ect...) but so long as you identify them as "not real" you can function normally in life.
There. A summation of most of what I learned in AP Psychology. Now, give me some actual questions!

Wow. Nice questions, each deserving of a long answer.
Zorn: Before I can tell you how to fix a DVD, you need to know a little about how a DVD is made. First of all, the actual data of a DVD is contained within a reflective layer that is actually between the label and the plastic, not within the plastic itself. This means that if the plastic is scratched, the data can still be saved. However, if the label is scratched, the data is gone. To fix a scratch in the plastic, there's a nice product called DiscRx that is designed to fix that. If a scratch isn't the problem, specify what part of the DVD is defective, and I'll get an answer.
Pez: Well, gargling salt water usually only helps when you have a sore throat. I'm not sure to the exact reasons why this works, but it has something to do with the salt in the water calming down swelling and pain.
Sync: Nope, afraid not. Try to clean the lens yourself and you may void the warrenty on the system. Now, for un-supported methods, you might try a soft, lint-less cloth and just gently rub the lens. Also, there are special kits that you can use to clean the lens, but those don't always work because the brush might actually scratch the lens.

In the case of a double sided DVD, the reflective layers are faced outwards from eachother and encased in a layer of plastic all the way around. The DiscRx helps with scratched DVDs, single or double sided, but the only way to save the data from an overheated disc is a very expensive operation to transfer the reflective layer from the damaged disc to a new disc.
Mmm... Psychology.
Zorn: The problem is that subliminal messages have been proven to be ineffective. Think about it this way: you don't perceive the message, therefore, it doesn't affect you. This has been experimented to death, and the only result is, unless you think you're being subliminally messaged, you won't be affected. It's basically the placebo effect. You believe in it, therefore, it happens. Sorry, but no subliminal messages for you.
