After a 3-week hiatus from movies, I sure picked the wrong movie to start back up with.

"Time travel becomes possible in the near future. A Yale history professor (Billy Connolly) travels back to France in 1357, but is unable to return. Three of his students decide to rescue him, but once there, all of them become embroiled in the dangerous action, politics and maladies of the era." (Fandango.com)

The story itself was quite good, and some of the characters played their parts quite well. The problem lies in the main characters and how artificial they act. David Thewlis, playing Robert Doniger, has no reason to act in the insane manner he does. Paul Walker also doesn't show much emotion at all during the movie, despite being the central character. Despite all of the flaws, the movie is actually good and worth watching, perhaps on DVD instead of in the theater.

It's the case with a couple of Chrichton's novels.

Sphere, for example.
