If you're going to watch this movie because of Johnny Depp, then by all means do so. He presents a wonderful character that serves to lighten the mood of the movie. He's funny, and he acts the part well.

For most other reasons, this movie might better be viewed as a rental, not spending precious money on the theater. It has a decent plot, but the characters lack proper motivation and development. Except for Mr. Depp, who seems to be the only well developed character in the movie, with a good backstory and great motivation for continuing. The special effects were good, and as you've seen from the commercials/trailers, the skeleton animations are great and believable.

In short, an alright movie with not-so-alright characters.

*walks in adorned with pirate garb* What?

Seriously, I have to disagree with chromus on this one; I thought it was a great movie, worth my $8.75. This movie rocked so hard, I actually saw it twice in the same week (saw it first Sunday, then again Wednesday). Johnny Depp was absolutely brilliant - nobody could play the part of Jack Sparrow as well as he did. Orlando was awesome as always (*drools*) - quite different from Legolas. Aww, it was such an awesome movie. XD

"Why, thank you, Jack."
"....you're welcome."
"Oh, not you. We named the monkey Jack."

XD!! Memorable quotes abound in PotC.

I would like to mention that my posts are not the be-all, end-all to the movies. I just happen to post because I want to share my views on the movies, and responses are encouraged, like Jo-Chan's. It's comforting to know that Pez and I aren't the only ones who go out to see movies.

Actually, reflecting on the movie now, I see how it was much better than anything else I've seen lately, though I still stick with some of the poor character development.

I'm too poor to go to movies... otherwise I wouldn't have to wait for my parents to get around renting movies... @_@

Heh heh. I work at Hollywood Video, so I get free rentals. >:]

Well, after seeing PotC for the third time, I still say I'll see it again many more times. I do see what Chromus is saying - at times, character development did seem a little off-color a few times, and it took me three times seeing the movie to actually get some of the stuff that was going on, but I still wuv it! <3 And now I get the award for saying the word "times" so many times in a single post. o.O;;;

Counting all the "Times" you have in your post... I see that you said "Times" seven times. Seven times isn't enough to get the award for saying Times alot... I do believe you need 10 times to get the award for saying Times. I hereby claim that in times like this, Only I should get the award for saying "times" 10 Times.

HAH!!

*gives the award to jo-chan, locke is disqualified since usually when he said "Times" he was only referring to this "contest", this is not fair since it is free usage of the word with no real context.*

omg Johnny Depp and OrlandoBloom r so hott! I want to get married to them both!...*clears throat* sorry about that what i meant to say was that i thoroughly enjoyed the movie and am surprised by how they could base a good movie of a Disney Ride that lasts only a few minutes( good luck creating another one disney:coming out next summer Space Mountain hehe) well i think that the plot was good and consistent, it had twists, and comedy and drama but not so much of either that the movie was ruined. a great movie overall
